Suksesskriterier i rådgivningsprosessen: En kvalitativ studie av rådgiverens perspektiv på tiltak, ferdigheter og holdninger som tilrettelegger for mestringsfremmende perspektiv og vekstfremmende rådgivningsprosesser

Abstract

I denne masteroppgaven har jeg undersøkt hvilke perspektiv har rådgivere om hvordan de tilrettelegger for konstruktive rådgivningsprosesser, her også kalt suksesskriterier. Fokuset i masteroppgaven har vært hva som oppleves som mestringsfremmende og vekstfremmende. Jeg har undersøkt hva rådgivere opplever at fungerer, hvilke ulike rådgivningstiltak bruker rådgiver for å skape mestringsfremmende perspektiv og en vekstfremmende prosess, og hvilke ferdigheter, holdninger og egenskaper hos rådgiver anser de selv som betydningsfullt for sin egen rådgivningspraksis. Problemstillingen i denne masteroppgaven er: «Hvilke perspektiv har rådgivere om hvordan de tilrettelegger for konstruktive rådgivningsprosesser?»

Masteroppgaven har intervjuet seks ulike informanter, hvor alle har en profesjon innenfor fagfeltet rådgivning med ulik utdannelse og stillingsbeskrivelse. Prosjektets empiri er innhentet i en kvalitativ undersøkelse. Undersøkelsen besto av et semistrukturert intervju som metode for innsamling av datamaterialet. En fenomenologisk tilnærming av empirien var formålstjenlig for å få informantenes egne frie beskrivelser av sin opplevde hverdag som rådgiver og deres praksis. Empirien er bearbeidet i en tematisk analyse på et semantisk nivå, hvor formålet var å belyse informantenes egne beskrivelser av hva som fungerer for å finne hvilke kriterier en rådgivningsprosess burde inneholde for å oppleves som suksessfull.

Masteroppgaven tar utgangspunkt i Gerald Egan og Robert J. Reese (2021) sin liste over ingredienser for suksessfull hjelp. Relasjonell/kognitiv tradisjon og humanistisk tradisjon har fått en sentral plass i oppgaven sammen med de teoretiske rådgivningsperspektivene eksistensialistisk, Empowerment og salutogenisk perspektiv. Videre er det essensielt å presentere rådgivningsmodellene til Gerald Egan og Robert Carkhuff, som illustrasjoner på rådgivningsprosesser.

Funn fra prosjektet viser tre hovedkategorier som fremstår som viktige i en suksessfull rådgivningsprosess, det er Hvem er rådgiver, kompetanse og ferdigheter og prosessen. Funnene i prosjektet viser at suksesskriteriene i en rådgivningsprosess er: god relasjon, progresjon og en tilnærmingsmetode som støtter og oppmuntrer rådsøker, og validerer rådsøker sine følelser og behov. Rådgivers rolle og menneskesyn er viktige funn i forhold til rådgiver sitt perspektiv på rådgivningsprosessen, og er viktige kriterier i en suksessfull rådgivningsprosess.

In this master’s thesis, I have researched what perspectives the counsellors have when it comes to facilitating constructive counselling processes, here also referred to as success criteria. Some focal points in this master’s thesis have been to discover what promotes a sense of accomplishment and growth. I have researched what is perceived to work, different measures the counselors use to create accomplishment-promoting perspectives and a growth-promoting process, and which different skills, attitudes and characteristics the counselors themselves consider important for their counseling practice. The theme of the master’s thesis is: «Which perspectives do counsellors have on how they facilitate the constructive counseling processes? »

I interviewed six informants for this master’s thesis, all of whom have a profession within the field of counseling, but with different educations and job descriptions. The project's empirical evidence has been obtained in a qualitative survey, where a semi-structured interview was used to collect the data. A phenomenological approach of the empirical work was suitable, as the project wanted the informants own free descriptions of their everyday life as counselor and their practice. The research has been processed in a thematic analysis on a semantic level. The purpose was to elicit the informants' own descriptions of what works, in order to find which criteria a counseling process should contain in order to be perceived as successful.

The master’s thesis is based on Gerald Egan and Robert J. Reese's (2021) list of ingredients for successful help. Relational/cognitive tradition and humanistic tradition have a main role in the master’s thesis, alongside the theoretical counseling perspectives of existentialist, empowerment and salutogenic perspective. Furthermore, it is essential to present the counseling models of Gerald Egan and Robert Carkhuff, as an illustration of counseling processes.

Findings from the project show that three main categories appear to be important in a successful counseling process, namely who the counsellor is, their competence and skills, and the process. The findings of the project show that these are the success criteria in a counseling process: good relation, progression, and an approach that supports and encourages the counselee and validates the counselee’s feelings and needs. The counsellor’s role and view of humanity are important criteria in a successful counseling process.
