Strømeffektiv styring av høydebasseng
Abstract
The aim of the project is to optimize the regulation of an elevated reservoir in the municipal
water network based on market electricity prices, with the objective of saving money on
electricity expenses and reducing the strain on the power grid. To achieve this, a process
simulator and a smart control system were developed using Jython 2.7.2 in Ignition 8.1. These
modules use electricity prices obtained from the hvakosterstrømmen.no web-API to optimize the
system's operation.
Communication between the smart control module and the process simulator occurs via a LAN
cable and the OPC UA communication protocol. One computer is used for each of these modules,
with "Datamaskin 1" serving as the control system and "Datamaskin 2" representing the process,
which would realistically be a PLC. Each of these computers is an OPC UA server and receiver.
A web dashboard has been developed in the Perspective module of Ignition 8.1 for displaying
process data, with "Datamaskin 1" controlling the dashboard and receiving process data from the
process simulator via OPC UA. The process information is displayed in the dashboard, providing
operators with visual control over the system.
Two revisions of the smart control system have been developed, with the use of "Revision 2" in
conjunction with the process simulator resulting in a 35% savings during week 16, approximately
3000 NOK. Results obtained during the project's experimentation period indicate that it may be
an advantage for municipalities to implement this system in their water reservoirs, with
simulation proving it to be cost-effective
