I etikkens tjeneste. Dagfinn Føllesdal, Etikkprogrammet og etisk argumentasjon

Abstract

Denne artikkelen forteller noe av historien om Norges forskningsråds etikkprogram (1992–2001) og Dagfinn Føllesdals rolle innenfor dette programmet. Vår påstand er at Føllesdal bidro på avgjørende vis til den strategiske utviklingen av programmet som ble evaluert som innovativt, unikt og som et nasjonalt og internasjonalt forbilde i forskerutdanning på feltet. Artikkelen knytter også programmet til Føllesdals egen tenkning om etikk, behovet for dobbeltkompetanse og hans vektlegging av vitenskapelig kvalitet og åpne, empatiske diskusjoner om etisk komplekse temaer.

This article tells the story of the Programme for Ethics Research of the Research Council of Norway (1992–2001) and Dagfinn Føllesdal’s role within that programme. Our claim is that Føllesdal decisively contributed to the strategic development of the programme, which was later evaluated as having been innovative, unique, and a national and international example when it comes to ethics research education. Føllesdal contributed not least through his empha- sis on high scientific quality and what was termed “double competence”. The article also relates the Ethics Program to Føllesdal’s own thinking about ethics and his emphasis on open, empathic discussions about complex ethical themes.
