Human Rights and Community-based Approaches to Understanding the Disaster Risk Reduction Framework in Georgia: A Case Study of the 2023 Shovi Landslide

Abstract

This research focuses on the importance of governments developing stronger and more integrated disaster risk reduction strategies as climate-related disasters become more frequent and damaging for our societies. To make disaster management capacities more resilient it is important to elaborate, incorporate or create disaster risk reduction (DRR) initiatives into national disaster management plans. DRR strategies, approved by international organizations like the United Nations, aim to build more robust preparedness, prevention, response, recovery, and mitigation of natural and man-made hazards using sustainable approaches.
