In this thesis, I have looked further into Torgeir Vraa and the divisions that occurred in the Norwegian Labour Party during the 1920s. While historians previously have focused on the radical powers that affected the party, this thesis has focused on a moderate politician with a clear skepticism about the ongoing radicalization of his party. Torgeir Vraa, editor of the daily labour newspaper, Fremtiden (The Future), highly criticised the conditions of admittance to the Third International. The conditions divided the Norwegian Labour Party into three separate parties within three years. In the province Buskerud, where Torgeir Vraa lived and Fremtiden was published, the Norwegian Labour Party still held a stronghold, even though there were quite many members who did not agree with the conditions of admittance. Torgeir Vraa played a major part in this, as his influence on the Labour movement in the province cannot be understated. When the editor was recognized as a moderate, and a person who could challenge the ongoing radicalization of the party, he was quickly excluded as a politician. The radicals within the party also tried to diminish his influence by dismissing him as editor of Fremtiden. This gives us some idea about how the differences in ideology affected the individuals, and how they collided and worked against each other. Vraa represented a moderate path in the party, and he also advocated the strong unity of the Labour Party, but because of his restrained political ideology, he was quickly ignored by other members. His history and this thesis give us insight into how the strife affected the party and the Norwegian Labour movement in the early 1920s, and how political moderation was ignored in a turbulent situation, which effectively caused the Norwegian Labour Party to divide. This thesis also highlights the important role and influence Vraa had in the Labour movement in Buskerud. His role likely played a significant part during the Factional Strife in the Norwegian Labour Party in Buskerud and led to somewhat of preservation of the status quo in the province for the support of the party.
