The thesis aims to investigate how English teachers in Norway take into account the English that their students are exposed to in their spare time, and how and to what extent they encourage this. It is based on previous research on the topic of out-of-school English and Extramural English which indicate that there may be a correlation between the use of English in one's spare time and English language aquisition. The study employs a mixed method approach with a digital survey followed by qualitative interviews. The research question the thesis attempts to answer is "How do English teachers in Norway encourage their students to engage in English language activities in their spare time?"
