Fantasy for bærekraftige borgere: En analyse av Sigbjørn Mostues Dødens tjern

Abstract

Denne oppgaven omhandler fantasy-litteratur sett i et bærekraftperspektiv, hvor potensiale for å øke leserens respekt for naturen og miljøbevissthet er i søkelyset. Her blir barne- og ungdomsromanen Dødens tjern (2021) av Sigbjørn Mostue analysert i henhold til hermeneutiske tradisjoner, hvor en økokritisk lesning er vektlagt. Som bakteppe for analysen blir litteraturteoriene til Wolfgang Iser, Martha Nussbaum, Bruno Bettelheim og Rosemary Jackson brukt. Analysen forgriper seg på personfremstilling og de litterære karakterenes utvikling, samt symbolikk, arketypiske mønstre og tematikk. Intertekstualitet, den språklige stilen og bokens litterære kommunikasjonsstrategier nevnes også, hvor humor, spenning og alvor er representert. I tillegg blir de økokritiske strategiene brudd med antroposentrismen, naturskildringer, skildring av bærekraftige samfunn, og synliggjøring av miljøødeleggelser (Bakken, 2018, s. 236-241) søkt etter. Leserens potensiale for utvikling, sentrert mot målet i Overordnet del av læreplanen 1.5: «Respekt for naturen og miljøbevissthet», blir gjennomgående fremhevet og diskutert.

This thesis thematize fantasy literature seen from a sustainability perspective, where the potential to increase the reader's respect for nature and environmental awareness is the aim. Here, the children's novel Dødens tjern (2021) by Sigbjørn Mostue is analyzed in accordance with hermeneutic traditions, where an ecocritical reading is emphasized. The literary theories of Wolfgang Iser, Martha Nussbaum, Bruno Bettelheim, and Rosemary Jackson are used as a backdrop for the analysis. The analysis prejudges the portrayal of the the development of the literary characters, as well as symbolism, archetypal patterns, and themes. Intertextuality, the linguistic style, and the book's literary communication strategies are also mentioned, where humor, suspense and seriousness are represented. In addition, the ecocritical strategies in violation of anthropocentrism, portrayals of nature, descriptions of sustainable societies, and visibility of environmental damage (Bakken, 2018, pp. 236-241) are sought. The reader's potential for development, centered on the goal in the General part of the curriculum 1.5: «Respect for nature and environmental awareness», is emphasized throughout and discussed.
