Sammendrag
Digitalization has let companies transform different sections to be more adaptable to technology. Nowadays companies tend to turn to cloud-based solutions, although it requires organizational support and commitment. The aim of this thesis was about what benefits, challenges and risks may happen during the transition of data from on-premises to cloud solutions.
The research was based on the view that different companies should be aware of the benefits and risks this transition brings for their companies and the challenges that they may face during data transition. The Norwegian Mapping Authority (Kartverket) has been implementing a digital service platform on the cloud. Their experience may provide invaluable insights for all Kartverket employees and other companies and organizations.
A qualitative study was chosen for this thesis, with in-depth interviews with five Kartverket employees, conducted to find the key points that are important for the employees and the organization. The findings consist of some key benefits such as flexibility and scalability that help to quickly adapt to new technologies and scale the user demand faster. On the other hand, and somewhat surprising, the most significant challenge is the impact that this transition has on the IT team.
