Abstract
In this thesis a part of the CO2 desorption tower at Technology Centre Mongstad (TCM) is simulated and studied using CFD, it is the continuation of “Investigation of the performance of a pilot scale CO2 desorption column using CFD simulations” by Avishan Shakeri which goes into greater detail about previous literature and the project objective and runs the simulation in 2D with porous media simplifications, in this thesis it is expanded to 3D and utilize packing bed geometry.
The simulations show liquid-hold up in the top 3 layer of the TCM desorber tower, but that is not confirmed or compared with experimental results. It also shows that introducing a deflector plate and CO2 bypass tube has a positive hydrodynamic effect on the simulation.
