Abstract

Introduksjon: Covid-19 pandemien forandret arbeidshverdagen til helsepersonell over hele verden. Det var mangel på smittevernutstyr og intensivpersonell, lite kunnskap om viruset og store omveltninger på flere sykehus for å få plass til pasientene med covid-19. Hvilke erfaringer og opplevelser hadde helsepersonellet i forhold til de isolerte pasientene med covid-19 på intensivavdelingen, og hvilke erfaringer hadde helsepersonellet med kommunikasjonen og samarbeidet om disse pasientene?

Hensikt: Hensikten med denne masteroppgaven er å belyse helsepersonellets erfaringer og opplevelser under covid-19 pandemien. Målet er å få være med på å få mer kunnskap om hvordan en best mulig kan ivareta helsepersonell og pasienter under en pandemi. Dette ses i lys av elementer fra personsentrert sykepleie og deler av intensivsykepleiernes funksjons- og ansvarsområder.

Metode: En kvalitativ studie, med innholdsanalyse i tråd med Graneheim og Lundeman.

Studiedesign: Eksplorerende design med en semistrukturert intervjuguide. Utvalg: 11 informanter fordelt på to fokusgrupper fra en intensivavdeling på et sykehus i Helse Sørøst. Intervjuene ble gjennomført desember 2021.

Resultater: Funnene består av fire kategorier og 13 subkategorier. Kategoriene omhandler distanse til hverandre, fra usikkerhet til trygghet, opplevelse av barrierer til pasienten og erfaring av unikt samarbeid. Tema som kom frem under analysen var: Fra kaos til system.

Konklusjon: Intensivsykepleiere og leger har kjent på en følelse av usikkerhet og redsel under covid-19 pandemien. Det har vært en krevende tid for helsepersonell blant annet på grunn av mangel på smittevernsutstyr, smittevernsutstyret reduserte den verbale og non-verbale kommunikasjonen og det var lite kunnskap om viruset. Men pandemien kan ha bidratt positivt for arbeidsmiljøet, det oppstod et unikt samarbeid på tvers av profesjoner, og en følelse av å stå sammen.

Introduction: The Covid-19 pandemic changed the working lives of healthcare professionals around the world. There was initially a shortage of infection control equipment and intensive care personnel, little knowledge of the virus and major upheavals in several hospitals to accommodate patients with covid-19. What experiences did the healthcare personnel have in relation to the isolated patients with covid-19 on the intensive care unit, and what experiences did the healthcare personnel have with the communication and cooperation regarding these patients?

Purpose: The purpose of this Master's thesis is to shed light on health care personnel's experiences during the Covid-19 pandemic. The goal is to gain more knowledge about how best to care for healthcare workers and patients during a pandemic. This is shown in light of elements from person centred nursing and parts of the intensive care nurses' function and responsibility areas.

Method: A qualitative study, with content analysis in line with Graneheim and Lundeman.

Study design: Exploratory design with a semi-structured interview guide. Selection: 11 informants divided into two focus groups from an intensive care unit at a hospital within the South-East Regional Health Authority. The interviews were conducted in December 2021.

Results: The findings consist of four categories divided into 13 sub-categories. The categories deal with physical and mental distance between each other, from uncertainty to safety, experience of barriers to the patient and experience of unique collaboration. The topics that emerged during the analysis were: From chaos to system.

Conclusion: Nurses and doctors have felt a sense of uncertainty and fear during the covid-19 pandemic. It has been a challenging time for healthcare workers partly due to a lack of protective equipment and the fact that protective equipment reduced verbal and non-verbal communication, and there was little knowledge about the virus. However, the pandemic may have contributed positively to the working environment. A unique collaboration arose across professions, and a sense of standing together.
