Holte, K. Fra kritkroting til nye dekorative uttrykk - bruk av motiver fra geometrisk kritkroting i tekstile arbeider. Master thesis, University College of Southeast Norway, 2016
Abstract
This master thesis in traditional art is about the west Norwegian decor tradition called “kritkroting” and motifs that were used in this decor. The thesis is limited to apply the geometrical “kritkroting” in Hordaland County in Norway. The object has been to achieve knowledge of what this decorative tradition was and to arrive at how I can use the motifs of this decor tradition in my textile work. I have worked on the following research formulation: "What is kritkroting and how can motives and aesthetic qualities of the geometrical kritkroting in Western Norway be continued, developed and used for new decorative expression in my own textile work" The thesis includes a written part and practical part. The written part includes chapters on cultural history, continuation and analysis of the selected motifs. The practical part includes pre examination studies of selected motifs, digital sketch work and textile tests in knitting and embroidery techniques. The result of the analysis, pre examination studies and sketch work underlies the textile tests that have led to new decorative expression in textile wall pictures.
