| dc.description.abstract | A set of final exams at Telemark State University has been studied to check if there is a symbiotic relationship between the mathematical tool and some technical courses offered at the Electrical Engineering Department. The study reveals some major differences with respect to culture, scope, form and content between the mathematical and technical world; maybe explained by the traditional role of mathematics as a 'sorting mechanism' of entering students. However, recent internal development has shown that a bridging process is on its way. Thanks to this development, the answer to the question raised in the heading must be a cautious 'yes' but further development work is necessary to ensure good linking between the Department of Mathematics and the engineering staff. | |
