Resultater: Studiens hovedfunn deles inn i fire kapitler.
Objective: The study's goal is to explore the experiences of midwives with the release of natural oxytocin in childbirth in a medicalised maternity care. We will also shed light on the experiences midwives have in promoting the release of natural oxytocin, and what they experience can be inhibiting the release. We also aim that this study can help raise awareness of how the birth progress and normal childbirth can be safeguarded, by focusing on factors that release natural oxytocin. Research question: What do midwives experience is important for the release of natural oxytocin in normal childbirth? Method: The study is based on a qualitative method. The research material consists of eleven in-depth interviews. They are conducted with midwives from three differentiated maternity units in Norway, midwifery-controlled units, maternity wards, and women's clinics. Braun & Clarke's thematic analysis has been used. Results: The study's main findings are divided into four chapters. The chapter "Communication as a key to the release of natural oxytocin" shows how communication and information are essential for the natural release of oxytocin. Predictability and continuous follow-up are important, so that woman can release natural oxytocin. In the chapter "Safe women give birth more easily", we see from the data that the midwives find that if the woman feels safe, it has an impact on birth progression and natural oxytocin release. In "Birth on a par with nature", we see that the midwives find that it is important to ensure childbirth as a natural process. The findings show that women who have grown up close to nature have a more natural relationship with themselves and the birth process. In the chapter "Today's maternity care emerges from a medical system", the midwives point to a medicalised maternity care focusing mainly on pathology in healthy births. Natural childbirth and natural oxytocin are thereby not facilitated. The relationship between the midwife and the woman giving birth is broken up and becomes fragmented, as the focus on continuous care is not given priority. Conclusion: The midwives find that communication, safety, continuous maternity care, and time for this care are essential for safeguarding the birth progress and release of natural oxytocin. The fact that the midwife and the woman herself believe in a normal birth is important to promote natural oxytocin. Keywords: Natural oxytocin, artificial oxytocin, normal childbirth, birth progression, safety, continuous maternity care, differentiated maternity care, medicalised maternity care.
