This paper discusses how citizens can play the role of sensors, using their perceptions to discover and report problems using some kind of digital platform. The use of human sensors is connected to the concept of “smart cities”. After a literature review, the paper presents two platforms and their use in detail: “FixMyStreet” and “Sauberes Wiesbaden”. The two case examples are used to discuss the concept of human sensors in further detail. The paper concludes with proposals for further research on the topic presented.
