This master’s degree aims to research historical photography that documents our Norwegian folk music legacy, from the period 1840-1940. The century forms our first hundred years of photography in Norway. The research aims to investigate where and the quantity of photographs that is conserved in Norwegian professional archives and museums, all regions in the country included. I will aim to describe how a photographical work, visually can be linked to the music tradition from the time. At last, the research discusses common visual features that the studied photographical material shows, and presents a comment on how a photographical work, visually can expose Norwegian folk music in modern time. My aim is to present a “portrait” of Norwegian folk music.en_US
