dc.description.abstract | This thesis explores the possibilities for form variation in romsdalsspringar, inspired by
French traditions as well as traditions from Sunnmøre. These traditions represent two
form principles: “vekvariasjon” and “motivvariasjon”. These principles are used to
investigate how form affect style of playing. This assessment is based on “reflection in
practice”, where the main findings is the process and reflection around transferring new
form variations to a well-known musical material. As a basis for the experiments lies
theory of improvisation and variability, as well as more or less established principles of
form in Norwegian traditional music. The thesis attempts to show how a systematic
approach and deriving of form principles from a music tradition can be transferred to
another. | nb_NO |
