The purpose of this thesis is to pattern weld knife blades based on recycled materials from steel, and experiment with etchings to induce patterns in the surface. By reusing scrap metals, this will help to save the environment, and make it suitable for students and artists in as easy and economically reasonable way as possible. I have been working methodically where I tested the flexibility, plasticity and welding qualities in the scrap metal. The material has created limitations that have made me look for other possible solutions. This has resulted in changes in the planned pattern along the way in the practical process. At the end of the thesis, there are an aesthetic analysis of seven selected knife blades that shows the results of the varied patterns that appeared in the surface.nb_NO
